Are we ready for semantic web?

My topic is the next big thing on Internet or in fact in IT!

We have been so advantaged by Web 2.0 technologies. It changed the way we communicate and allowed what we called social networking. Wikipedia, Flickr, Youtube, Myspace, and Ecademy are some well known examples of its manifestations.
As usual, we need more and better, of course!

As you may have heard so far, the next good thing is Web 3.0 a.k.a. Semantic Web. It is expected to make the Internet like a single giant database. Siloes of web will be transforming into a single entity. Doesn’t that reminds us of something about spirituality? Oneness! Ocean of consciousness.

Now, what key features will Web 3.0 will bring:
Ubiquitous connectivity, open technologies, open identity, semantic application platforms, Statement-based datastores, Intelligent and embedded search utilities, Resource Description Framework are a few to mention. I will further discuss this in a new thread on my blogs in Ecademy. You are welcome to join and provide your insights. Any idea will bring us closer to Web 3.0 which we expect to be launched in 2010.

So I would like to know that
1. Are you personally ready to embrace Web 3.0?
2. What are the roadblocks that we may overcome with collaboration? What is essential to make it happen?
3. What do you expect the implications and impact of Web 3.0 to be on your business?
